How I did not see Radiohead last night

At around noon yesterday, a friend sent me a message saying, in substance: "Secret free Radiohead gig tonight, record store, East London. You're coming?"
To which I replied, "Hell yeah!!!"

After verification, the Radiohead website had indeed posted a message announcing a gig at Rough Trade East in Brick Lane. Of course I couldn't get out of work like that, so I knew very well there was no way I could get in there early enough to actually get into the shop; however, the message was saying there would be a screen outside to watch the gig live. Better than nothing, i thought.

Well, it turned out to be nothing: I arrived there around 7, and there was a few hundred people waiting outside. The rumor was that the gig was in fact at 93 Feet East, across the street, and that the police had ordered the band not to put a screen outside. So we waited, in the cold, for two hours, hoping to get in. At nine, they opened the doors but only people with red arm wrists were allowed in (something they could have told us much earlier...) so I waited for nothing...

As it turned out the gig was just splendid, you can watch it there and download mp3s there.

What a disappointment! They better make up for it in June at Victoria Park!
