Arcade Fire @ Alexandra Palace

What a great gig!

What a shitty venue!!!

Surely, Alexandra Palace is one of the worst places in London, gig-wise. The transport there is terrible, and the fact that it was Sunday probably didn't help. Also, there were coupons to buy in order to get drinks - that's fine at festivals, but at gigs it just ridiculous!

The first supporting act I missed, and the second one was Clinic. That's a band I have known for a LONG time: I discovered them when the supported Radiohead in the pre-Kid A tour in Paris. That's 7 years ago. They're still supporting big acts, and it's not really surprising: Musically they're pretty good, but in term of show they're baaad. I mean, the surgical mask is OK for a beginner's band, but for a band that's been around for almost 10 years it doesn't look very serious.

Arcade Fire, on the other hand, are one hell of a band. There are 10 people on stage, and they really make the music sound... different from anything else. They all swap instruments from one song to the other, and have very cool visual effects as well. I particularly enjoyed the faster songs, when the guitarists/keyboardists go nuts on their drums.
There was a sound problem at some point, and that led to "My body is a cage" being played instrumentally, because the mikes were down. But other than that, pretty much a flawless gig. Definitely my favorite new band of the year.

It's really a shame that it took me almost 2 hours to get home afterwards. Definitely, I hate this venue.
